Job summary

SER Limited is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support CNC turning machines, including sliding-head Swiss-type lathes and fixed-head lathes, across Essex and further afield in the UK&Ireland. The role focuses on installations, servicing, repairs and breakdown support with regular travel.

The ideal candidate has a strong CNC machine-tool background, mechanical or electrical engineering skills, and familiarity with Fanuc or Mitsubishi controls.

Qualifications

• Experience servicing/maintaining CNC machinery in a field service/engineering role.
• Strong understanding of CNC machine tools and operation.
• Multi-skilled engineers (mechanical or electrical) welcomed; travel required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out CNC machine installations, servicing, repairs and breakdown support.
• Work on sliding-head Swiss-type lathes and fixed-head CNC machines (e.g., Miyano).
• Undertake mechanical repairs (ball screws, bearings, components).
• Diagnose electrical faults (E-stop circuits, interlocks, safety systems).
• Carry out PLC testing, fault-finding and diagnostics.
• Support customers UK-wide with travel and overnight stays.”

Field Service Engineer - CNC Sliding Head & Fixed Head Lathes

Location: Essex / South East England | UK & Ireland Travel Salary: £37,000 - £45,000 + Bonus + Company Car

The Opportunity

Are you a mechanically or electrically biased Engineer with a strong CNC machine-tool background?

We're working with an established OEM machine-tool manufacturer looking to recruit a Field Service Engineer to join their team. Specialising in high-quality CNC turning machines, including sliding-head Swiss-type machines and fixed-head lathes. This is a varied field-based role focused primarily on machine installations, servicing, breakdowns and repairs.

The Role

• Carry out CNC machine installations, servicing, repairs and breakdown support.


• Work on sliding-head Swiss-type lathes and fixed-head CNC machines, including Miyano machines.


• Undertake mechanical repairs involving ball screws, bearings and other key machine components.


• Diagnose electrical faults involving E-stop circuits, door interlocks and machine safety systems.


• Carry out PLC testing, fault-finding and diagnostics.


• Support customers across the UK and Ireland, with regular travel and overnight stays.


• Deliver a professional and reliable service while building long-term technical expertise.

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience working with CNC machinery within a service, maintenance or engineering environment.


• Strong understanding of CNC machine tools and their operation.


• Mechanical or electrical engineering background - multi-skilled engineers preferred.


• Familiarity with Fanuc or Mitsubishi controls would be advantageous.


• Engineers from other CNC backgrounds, including laser or press brake machinery, will also be considered.


• A positive attitude, willingness to learn and flexibility to travel.
