Job description

Experience with plant, HGVs, forklifts or powered access? Take your engineering skills into specialist lifting equipment, with full product training provided.

An established specialist lifting and plant hire business is looking for a mechanically and/or electrically skilled Service Engineer to join its team.

You’ll service, diagnose and repair mini cranes and lifting equipment, combining hands-on workshop work with site visits and customer support. If you enjoy solving technical problems and keeping machinery working safely, this is an opportunity to broaden your expertise on a varied range of equipment.

The role
  • Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on mini cranes and specialist lifting equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults, using technical diagrams to identify effective repairs.
  • Attend customer sites to investigate breakdowns and get equipment back into operation.
  • Support customers with equipment operation, familiarisation and mini crane training.
  • Complete accurate service reports, maintenance records and health and safety documentation.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to prioritise repairs and support day-to-day workshop activity.
  • Maintain safe working practices and a tidy, organised workshop.
What you’ll bring
  • Previous mechanical and/or electrical engineering experience.
  • The ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic diagrams.
  • A practical approach to fault finding, with strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and confidence dealing with customers.
  • The ability to work independently and contribute to a team.
  • A sound understanding of health and safety, alongside accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Your background could be in:
    • Plant maintenance or agricultural machinery.
    • HGV maintenance and repair.
    • Forklift trucks and materials handling equipment.
    • Powered access and access platforms.
    • Cranes or other lifting equipment.
  • Full training on the specialist equipment will be provided, so previous mini crane experience is not essential.
  • Applications from ex-military engineers with relevant transferable skills are particularly welcome.
