Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a Field Operations Manager for the Waste Networks division, covering Mogden site and field work. You will lead a field-based team of engineers, ensure safe, effective operations within budget, and drive customer service improvements.

The role requires directing, coaching and performance management of operatives, strong communication skills, and a full UK driving licence. Competitive salary and a car allowance accompany 36-hour weeks across Mon-Fri.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in one of our most critical people management roles within Waste Networks as a front-line Field Operations Manager. You will take responsibility for the management, support and motivation of your field-based team.

You will ensure the day-to-day operations of the networks, deliver regulatory compliance within strict budgets and lead and develop a team of Network Engineers. In this varied role you will be both at our Mogden site and out in the field with your team.

What will you be doing as a Field Operations Manager?

• Provide strong operational leadership, act as a role model for the team, and offer hands-on support to ensure safe, effective, and efficient delivery of operational objectives.
• Performance managing a field operations team to deliver operational asset maintenance, customer service targets and supporting efficient completion of projects.
• Monitor and drive performance against key metrics to make sure all work is responded to promptly.
• Direct and develop Network Engineers by setting measurable goals, holding team meetings, one to one-on-ones, completing the PDR process and creating individual development training plans.
• Promote a culture of engagement and motivation within the team.
• Conduct regular site visits to assess the quality of work being completed by your team.
• Take team responsibility for safe working practices which comply with company procedures.
• Identify and support the implementation of new initiatives to drive operational efficiency and customer service improvements.
• When required to cover annual leave, sickness absence, operational demand, or other business needs, the Field Operations Manager will take direct control of pollution, flooding, and mitigation activities.

Location: Mogden - Isleworth - TW7 7LW and in the field with your team

Hours: 36 hours - Monday to Friday

Salary: £40,000 to £50,000 depending on skills and experience + a car allowance

What should you bring to the role?

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:

• Experience in directing, developing and performance-managing field-based operatives.
• A positive, engaging personality and style.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital for this role, and you must have an exceptional standard of organisation and be health, safety, and wellbeing aware.
• You will be fully proficient in the use of Microsoft Office as well as planning and reporting software.
• Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is essential.

Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring:

• Formal influence and management qualifications are desirable.
• Knowledge and understanding of the waste water network are desirable.
• The ability to converse with managers and stakeholders.
