Job summary

The Met Office is seeking an exceptional Roaming Network Officer to join our team. The role is hybrid, based across the UK with time spent at our Watnall office and from home, and requires extensive travel to weather stations.

The post holder will oversee land observation sites, install instruments, respond to incidents, and maintain equipment ensuring high-quality observations. You will travel around the UK, with occasional visits to Exeter HQ, and may stay away overnight up to 4 nights per

Qualifications

• Knowledge of land observing systems and instrumentation.
• Ability to travel across the UK and stay away overnight.
• Experience installing and maintaining weather observation equipment.
• Ability to interact with voluntary observers and site authorities.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and assess suitability of observing sites, install/repair equipment and advise on deployment.
• Instruct and provide feedback to voluntary observers on how to undertake observing tasks.
• Ensure observations meet requirements by monitoring performance, calibration and site selection.
• Collect, manage and archive site metadata.
• Plan site visits and maintain stocks of calibrated instruments and literature.
• Collaborate with the Surface Observations Operations team for quality management.
• Occasionally visit land observation sites on short notice to support verification.
