Job summary

Motorola Solutions in the UK seeks a Field Engineer to maintain and fault-find on the Airwave TETRA network, including transmission systems and control rooms within the South West region.

You will receive training and equipment to perform network maintenance, be responsible for quick fault resolution, and ensure 24/7 geographic coverage. The role requires working at height and travel across the region.

Job description

Respond to Network Incidents

• NMC Alerts: The Network Management Centre (NMC) will alert the engineer when they are the closest engineer with the required skills to resolve a network incident.
• Working Hours: This response is required during normal working hours and out of normal working hours.
• On-Call Rota: Active participation in a 1 in 4 call-out rota is an essential duty of this role. Full compliance is required to guarantee continuous 24/7 geographical coverage for the maintenance and reliability of the Airwave Network.

Airwave Base Sites, Switches, and Control Rooms

• Perform planned maintenance, visual inspections, and functional checks.
• Provide 1st and 2nd line fault diagnosis.

Microwave Transmission Operation and Maintenance

• Operate and maintain transmission equipment installed on the Airwave Network. This includes MUX/DEMUX operation and maintenance, Microwave radio and identifying possible issues with 3rd party equipment.
• Provide 1st and 2nd line fault diagnosis. This means you are expected to be capable of handling both the initial identification and basic fix of a problem, as well as escalating your own work to more complex technical investigations if the initial steps do not resolve the issue.

Rigging & Climbing Activities

• TETRA Antenna replacement.
• Feeder/connector testing and replacement.
• Microwave equipment replacement and re-panning.
• Line of Sight (LoS) triage.

Problem Solving and Planning

• Take personal ownership and proactively schedule and manage your daily/weekly workload and where required plan with the scheduling team for any activities that need action, including:
• Reactive network faults.
• Antenna faults.
• Line of sight issues.
• Planning for site access and daily fault rectification (including consumables and spares management).
• Resolving service-affecting faults within Service Level Agreements (SLAs), completing timely inspection regimes, reporting exceptions, and executing follow-up work for rectification.

• Adhere strictly to the company's safety management system.
• Maintain competency to carry out assigned tasks safely.
• Remain fully informed and instructed regarding hazards and risks associated with tasks.
• Be physically capable of completing tasks and pass any required medical assessments. If an assessment is failed, the company will adhere to government guidelines regarding a return to full duties.
• Be sufficiently trained and capable of implementing the measures identified in designated processes, procedures, or risk assessments.

Candidates must have experience in or a strong understanding of:

• TETRA networks
• Transmission network
• Line of sight (LoS)
• Working at Height (including Advanced Climbing)
• Antenna and Outdoor Unit (ODU) replacement
• Feeder termination
• Anritsu Site Master/Spectrum Analyzer
• 18th Edition electrical regulations (desirable)
• Driving License: Possession of a full, valid UK driving license is essential for travel across the region.
• Working at Height: Demonstrated proficiency and confidence working at height, including on towers, monopoles, and rooftops.
• Teamwork & Autonomy: Capable of working independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
• Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel throughout the South West region, with the flexibility to cover other regions when required.

As a Field Engineer you will be responsible for the daily maintenance and fault finding/resolution on the Airwave TETRA network which includes transmission systems and Police, Fire and Ambulance control rooms within the Region.

Engineers are provided with the training and equipment necessary to perform network maintenance. It is the engineer's responsibility to maintain and refresh these skills.

Security Clearance: Ideally hold current UK Security Clearance (SC) and NPPV3, OR be willing to undergo security vetting following a Baseline Personnel Security Screening (BPSS) check.
