Job summary

Retaind Limited in the South East is seeking an Automatic Gate & Barrier Engineer to service and install automated gates and vehicle barriers across the London area.

You will diagnose faults, carry out maintenance, and contribute to safety testing, with a clear path for professional development within a small, growing team.

The role offers £40,000–£50,000 plus overtime, a company vehicle, tools and tablet, and opportunities to broaden technical skills.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working on automatic gates and vehicle barriers.
• Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills.
• DHF Level 2 Award in Automated Gate & Traffic Barrier Safety (or equivalent).
• Practical knowledge of gate safety, risk assessment and safe commissioning.
• Reading wiring diagrams and programming gate/barrier control systems.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and install automated swing and sliding gates and vehicle barriers.
• Diagnose faults with motors, gearboxes, hydraulic operators, control panels and wiring.
• Set gate travel limits, adjust operators and commission automation equipment.
• Test photocells, safety edges, vehicle detection loops and protective devices.
• Carry out gate safety assessments and force testing where applicable.
• Check hinges, rollers, tracks, fixings and mechanical stops for wear and safe operation.
• Investigate faults involving intercoms, access control and vehicle entry interfaces.
• Complete service reports and provide clear customer handovers.
