Job summary

Genesis Technology Services requires a Telecoms Field Engineer to deliver professional field engineering services across Scotland. You will provide 1st line assurance, install and commission IP and telecoms equipment, and maintain networks 24x7.

Full UK driving licence is essential, with a track record in DC chargers, PDH/SDH, and microwave links. The role demands strong communication, risk awareness, and adherence to health and safety standards while coordinating with project engineers on

Qualifications

  • Installation and commissioning of IP and telecoms equipment.
  • Experience in DC Chargers, PDH/SDH, and microwave links.
  • Knowledge of routing, switching, and data networking.
  • Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting networks and systems.
  • Scottish Power authorisations preferred (desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects on time, within cost and quality targets.
  • Complete project documentation as required by the project engineer.
  • Monitor progress and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify issues and risks and elevate appropriately.
  • Provide timely and quality communication to all stakeholders.
  • Deliver 1st line assure activities on a 24x7x365 basis.
  • Complete nominated RMI activities as required.
  • Suggest improvements and cost reductions where identified.

Job description

Role purpose

Delivery of excellence for our customer.

To provide a professional field engineering service for provide and assure activities across Scottish Power's strategic telecommunications network across Scotland and the interfaces into the SSEN, National Grid telecoms networks on behalf of our client's continued support contract.

To be available for the provision of 24 x 7 x 365 1st line, assure activities and routine maintenance work for our key utilities' suppliers.

Working alongside our project engineers on project delivery & assure delivery to achieve the benefits expected by both client and the customer.

Be able to manage risk, ensure quality and health & safety requirements are being met on an individual and team basis.

Hold a technical knowledge of networking principles, having operated in both provide and assure delivery space and have a proven track record of successful technical project implementation across various delivery solutions.

Full UK Driving Licence.

Demonstrate a positive can-do attitude.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership

Ensure projects are completed in a manner that ensures delivery to the time, cost, quality, health & safety parameters agreed with the client whilst conforming to customer's project engineering standards and others as agreed with the client.

A requirement to complete project documentation as required by the project engineer.

Monitor progress against plan and recommend corrective actions.

Identify issues and risks and elevate appropriately.

Provide timely and quality communication to all stakeholders.

Ensure technical, test and quality plans as agreed are delivered to the project engineer.

Ensure the necessary project administration is carried out.

Provision of 1st line assure activities on 24 x 7 x 365 basis adhering to our agreed contractual SLA targets. Reporting all information & updates to customer's service support desk.

Completion of nominated RMI activities as & when required.

Recommend improvements and cost reductions where identified.

  • Installation of Networks & equipment (Commtel/SDH/PDH/Radio/Xtran)
  • Excellent knowledge of routing switching and data networking
  • IP networking (Wan, LAN, MPLS)
  • Experience in maintaining monitoring and troubleshooting networks and systems
  • Must have technical / professional qualifications: Proven track record in the installation and support of DC Charger, PDH, SDH, Comtel, Microwave radio technology's DC & AC experienced.
  • Knowledge of Cisco & Alcatel products.
  • LAN & WAN Internetworking skills

Skills: Telecoms Field Engineer
  • Erect and secure EMC cabinets and Power Equipment Racks (DC Chargers)
  • Install containment (Cable Tray, Trunking)
  • Wiring and connection of DC cabling to IP and telecoms equipment
  • Cabling and termination of IP and telecoms cables (SWA, CAT5, 10-100Pr cables)
  • Installation and Commissioning of IP and telecoms equipment
  • Testing of circuits (protection services: VF, X21 & C37.94, Bearers: PDH, SDH, IP LAN & WAN)
  • Installation and configuration of IP telephones
  • Installation of and applying configurations to Cisco/Alcatel Switch/Routers
  • Provision, transfer and cessation of services/circuits
  • 1st line support and troubleshooting of IP and telecoms infrastructure 24x7x365 basis
  • Routine maintenance inspections on battery chargers, Optic Fibre cables, Pilot Cables, radio systems & CTC Record updates
  • Risk Assessments
  • Site surveys to enable installations
  • SR documentation (standing requirements) and handover documentation
