Job summary

Hevey Building Supplies is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to grow our customer base across Northampton and the East Midlands. You will develop new business, strengthen relationships with existing customers and spot opportunities to increase sales and margin.

This hands-on role requires builders' merchants knowledge, strong product awareness, and a proactive sales drive. You'll visit sites, work with the branch team, and deliver excellent service to our customers.

Qualifications

• Experience in business development or external sales within builders' merchants or similar sector.
• Strong knowledge of builders' merchant products and civils.
• Proven track record of developing customer relationships and driving sales.
• Commercial awareness and confidence negotiating on price and margin.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills.
• Ability to organise workload and pursue opportunities to closure.
• Collaborative approach within a wider team.
• Good IT skills and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Develop business across the area by identifying and approaching potential new customers.
• Grow existing accounts and identify opportunities for further growth.
• Visit customers and sites to build strong, lasting relationships.
• Promote Hevey's products and services in the local market.
• Collaborate on pricing, quotations and orders with customers.
• Negotiate with suppliers and support competitive pricing.
• Identify new products and opportunities to grow the business.
• Work with sales, purchasing and branch teams to maximise results.
• Support local sales and marketing activity and deliver high service levels.
