Job summary

Motion Applied is seeking a Field Application Engineer to support customers using our ATLAS software ecosystem and embedded hardware. You will help teams capture high-frequency data, analyse it, and visualise results with ATLAS Viewer.

Ideal candidates have trackside motorsport experience, a 2:1 or higher in CS/engineering, and strong problem-solving skills. The role involves travel, flexible hours, and collaboration across departments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate-level education with a minimum 2:1 in software, computer science or engineering.
  • Equivalent experience considered.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trackside, remote and on-site support to customers.
  • Represent customer viewpoints within Motion Applied.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues.
  • Develop and share demos to help customers maximise value.
  • Lead development projects with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose software issues under pressure with a methodical approach.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Motion Applied product usage.

Job description

Purpose of the Role

The Field Application Engineer will support customers useofMotion appliedhardware, embedded software, off-carconfigurationand data analysis software.This role has a primary focus on software, includimg helping customers use ourATLAS ecosystem.

ATLAS is arealtime telemetry and analysis ecosystem used by engineers in F1, NASCAR, IndyCar, WEC, Formula E, E1 and other racing series. It provides teams with ende to endpipeline that capturehigh frequencydata from ECUs and sensors, distribute it through the ATLAS Data Server and the Kafka backedstreaming architecture for low latency delivery to geo-dispersedteams, store it in SQLRace (SQL Server) or Parquet for high volumedata analysis, and visualise it in ATLAS Viewer.

Integrated into daily operations, ATLASfacilitates real-time monitoring, diagnosis, analysis and decision making for trackside and remote teams. Its public APIs and open source libraries allow teams to extend their infrastructure to ingestthird-partydata sources or automate postprocessing in Python,C# and MATLAB, enabling highly customisable, data drivenengineering workflows.

You will interact with other departments across the company tohelpcustomers maximise the valueof Motion appliedproducts.

This role may include worldwide travel, unsocial hoursand weekend work.You willrepresent the customer internally,to positively steer future development and influence the product strategy.

The role will focus on providinggeneral supportacross theMotion appliedmotorsport customer base,including customers competing in F1,NASCAR,WEC, IMSA, Formula E,IndyCarandMotoGP.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Provide support at the track, remotely and at customer premises.
  • Represent the customer’s viewpoint withinMotion applied.
  • Work with internal teams to push through issue resolution.
  • Assistwith improving departmental procedures and knowledge base.
  • Produce demsand examples to help customers extract maximum value from Motion Applied products.
  • Take on developmentprojects asrequiredanddrive these forwardwith minimal supervision.
  • Diagnosecustomer issues, probing problems to objectively understand whether it is a failure of the system or its environment.
  • Recogniseopportunity to add value withadditional Motion appliedproducts or solutions
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Accurately interpret observations notedin the fieldtoadvise solutions or elevate appropriately.
  • Diagnose software problems under pressure with a detailed and methodical approach.
  • Good communicator with the ability to capture information quickly and accurately.
  • Good understanding of the electronic elements of motorsport systems and powertrains, including the characteristics of typical sensors and actuators used in motorsport.
  • Experience of working trackside in a motorsport environment.
  • Educated to graduate level and awarded a minimum of an Upper Second-Class Honours Degree (2:1) in a relevantsoftware, computerscience or engineeringdiscipline. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
Experience of the following tools beneficial
  • Programming languages such asPython,MATLAB(and Simulink), C#,,Excel VBA-interfacing withproductAPIs.
  • Familiarity with timeseries dataand analysis
  • Understanding ofdata streaming brokers, including Kafka,,and containerised deployments, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Data analysis tools such as ATLAS
  • ECU set-up tools such as System Monitor
