Job summary

Penguin Random House UK’s Viking imprint seeks an Assistant Editor to support the Publisher and the wider team on a growing fiction list. This non-acquiring role covers editorial, publishing and administrative tasks, from acquisitions support to schedule oversight and author care.

You’ll collaborate with Marketing, Publicity, Sales and Rights, handle schedules, feedback on submissions, data entry in publishing systems, and general admin.

Qualifications

  • Experience in editorial work and manuscript evaluation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tight schedules.
  • Strong author care and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with fiction publishing markets and retailers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Publisher with day-to-day author care and communication.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Publicity, Sales and Rights teams.
  • Manage internal process of specified books, including scheduling and briefs.
  • Support on editorial schedules and budgets.
  • Read submissions and provide verbal/written feedback.
  • Maintain data accuracy in publishing systems.
