Job summary

Penguin General’s Viking fiction team is seeking an Assistant Editor to support the Publisher and the Editorial Director. You will help with editorial, publishing and administrative tasks, contributing to schedule management and author care for exciting crime, thriller, historical and romance titles.

You will read submissions, liaise with authors and agents, and assist with covers, proofs and data entry in publishing systems. This is a collaborative, office-based role with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience in fiction publishing and editorial workflow.
• Ability to manage author communications and feedback.
• Proficiency in editorial project coordination and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Support Publisher and Editorial Director on acquisitions and list development.
• Assist with scheduling, briefs, and copy where needed.
• Read submissions, provide feedback, and track data in publishing systems.
• Maintain diary management, meetings, and expenses processing.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Publicity, Sales and Rights teams.
