Job summary

Dakota Hotels in Scotland is seeking a hard-working Kitchen Porter for a fixed-term festive role running from 2 November 2026 to 10 January 2027. The position carries a contracted minimum of 12 hours per week and induction training on Saturday 7 November (10:00am–4:30pm).

Core duties include washing pots, pans, crockery, glassware and cutlery; keeping back of house clean; supplying chefs with equipment; and ensuring safe waste disposal. Training in health and safety will be provided on starting.

Responsibilities

• Wash all pots, pans, crockery, glassware and cutlery throughout the day.
• Store and organize all clean items and ensure chefs have required equipment.
• Carry out a daily clean of the Employee Break Room and a deep clean of the Kitchen twice daily.
• Ensure Back of House areas are clear and bins stored/cleaned daily.
• Follow correct waste disposal and recycling procedures and maintain waste storage area.
• Follow health and safety procedures, particularly waste handling and manual handling.
• Maintain knowledge of safe chemical handling guidelines for food prep areas.

Job description

We are seeking a hard-working individual suitable for a cleaning-based role for the position of Kitchen Porter.

This is a fixed-term festive role running from 2nd November 2026 to 10th January 2027. The role is offered with a contracted minimum of 12 hours per week.

To be considered for this role, you must be available to attend induction and training on Saturday 7th November (10:00am to 4:30pm). Applicants should also have good availability across key festive dates throughout the contract period, as this will be taken into account when offering shifts.

Estimated earnings of £14.19 per hour, comprising a basic hourly rate of £12.71 plus average anticipated tronc. Team members in this role at Dakota Edinburgh received an average of £1.48 per hour in tronc over the 12 months to September 2026. Tronc payments are variable, non-contractual and not guaranteed

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Wash all pots, pans, crockery, glassware, and cutlery throughout the day
• Store and organize all clean items, ensuring the Chefs have all required equipment
• Carry out a clean down of the Employee Break Room daily and a deep clean of the Kitchen twice daily
• Ensure the Back of House areas are clear from obstruction and maintain the bin store areas, ensuring they are clean and cleared daily.
• Follow the correct waste disposal and recycling procedures, maintaining the waste storage area within the hotel.
• Follow health and safety procedures closely at all times particularly pertaining to the handling of waste and manual handling.
• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of safe chemical handling guidelines and best practice relating to the immaculate upkeep of food preparation areas.

• Have a minimum of one years working experience in a cleaning or cooking role.

• Previous training in health and safety or chemical handling is beneficial but not required as this training will be provided upon starting.
