Job summary

South Hams District Council in Dartmouth is seeking a Float Person to operate the Dartmouth Lower Ferry. The role involves shift work including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays, with duties across all weather conditions and a focus on safety and service for passengers and vehicles.

You will collect payments, assist with ferry maintenance, and work under the Tug Master to ensure efficient crossing and compliance with regulations. Training can be provided for required certificates.

Qualifications

• Hold PB2 and in date ML5 or ENG1.
• Proficient in collecting payments (card & cash).
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Experience with small boat handling is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport cars and passengers across the River Dart under the Tug Master.
• Ensure safety of passengers, craft and other river users in compliance with Health and Safety and MCA Regulations.
• Assist with maintenance of ferry infrastructure as required.
• Work in all weather conditions and be flexible with shift rotations.
