Job summary

Sense is seeking a Waking Night Support Worker for Newton Court in Paston, Peterborough. The role is permanent, 18 hours per week (10:00pm–7:00am) on a two-week rota, with £13.00 per hour plus £0.50 night allowance.

The post requires a BSL Level 2 qualification and a full UK driving licence, with a note that the role is restricted to female applicants under the Equality Act 2010.

Here at Sense, we support people with complex disabilities to live the life they choose. We're looking for a Waking Night Support Worker to join our team at Newton Court in Paston, Peterborough for a permanent role working 18 hours per week, 10:00pm to 7:00am on a two-week rota including some weekends, paying £13.00 per hour plus a £0.50 per hour waking night allowance.

As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will be awake and actively supporting throughout the night, ensuring the people we support feel safe and comfortable until the morning team arrives.

A BSL Level 2 qualification and a full UK driving licence are both essential for this role.

Please note: this post is restricted to female applicants. This is a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

We are looking for someone who is:
  • Confident using BSL to communicate
  • Comfortable supporting people with mobility needs including walking, guiding, and wheelchair use
  • Able to work independently and use good judgement
  • Warm, calm, and reassuring throughout the night
  • Willing to attend training and develop in their role
This role might include supporting people with:
  • Personal care and hygiene
  • Medication and wellbeing
  • Providing reassurance and comfort overnight
  • Keeping accurate records and handover notes for the morning team
  • 24 days’ holiday + bank holidays; increasing with length of service
