Support a Young Woman to Enjoy Her Interests and Build Independence

Are you energetic, caring and naturally curious? Do you enjoy music, shopping, days out and discovering new experiences? Most importantly, do you want to support someone to live life on her own terms?

We are looking for female Support Workers to join a brand-new team supporting a vibrant young adult with complex physical and communication needs.

She has a big personality, a love of music and a real determination to make the most of life. She enjoys concerts and special events, meeting artists, collecting memorabilia, creating personalised merchandise and putting together themed outfits. She also loves shopping, cafés, family time, social media and using technology to stay connected with the world around her.

This isn't a role where you'll simply provide care and go home. You'll become an important part of helping her make plans, try new things, stay connected and enjoy the interests that matter most to her.

What could your day look like?

Every day can be different. You might be helping her get ready for a concert, supporting her on a shopping trip, enjoying a café visit, preparing for a holiday or helping her work towards greater independence at home.

You'll support her to take part in creative activities, develop everyday skills, maintain a positive routine and explore interests beyond screens. You'll also encourage opportunities to spend time with family and friends, develop relationships and be an active part of the community.

There may also be opportunities to support holidays, special events and exciting new experiences, so flexibility, enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved are essential.

Communication is at the heart of the role

Although she is non-verbal, she has her own effective ways of communicating through vocalisations and assistive technology.

You'll get to know her individual communication style and learn to recognise what she is telling you including her choices, preferences, likes and dislikes.

Patience, attentiveness and a genuine interest in understanding the person you're supporting are therefore just as important as practical care skills.
