Job summary

Royal Mencap Society seeks a compassionate, patient individual to support people with learning disabilities in Derry/Londonderry. You will use PBS techniques to promote engagement, build trust, and enable independence across day, night, and weekend shifts. A clean UK driving licence is required; sponsorship is not available.

You will assist with personal care, finances, and community activities, working in a supportive, inclusive team with ongoing training and development.

Are you a compassionate, patient, and dedicated individual with a passion for helping others? We are looking for someone who has a fun, engaging and positive approach to communication, the ideal candidate will have excellent conversational skills, a good sense of humour and the ability to build rapport through natural, meaningful interactions.

You should be able to incorporate Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) techniques into everyday conversations, using encouragement, positive reinforcement, empathy and creativity to promote engagement, confidence and positive outcomes.

We have 2 x 23-hour contracts available in our Derry/Londonderry service, working a variety of shifts across days, nights, and weekends.

Please note a clean UK driver's licence is required for this role.

What You’ll Do:

Support people with learning disabilities in their daily lives and routines

Assist with personal care and medication, including bathing and dressing

Help with finances and everyday tasks like shopping and bill payments

Encourage independence and social inclusion by supporting community activities and groups

Use Positive Behaviour Support strategies to enhance quality of life

Build trusting, meaningful relationships based on empathy and respect

What We’re Looking For:

A genuine passion for supporting others

Flexibility to work a range of shifts including evenings, weekends, and overnight

A positive, patient, and empathetic attitude

Willingness to register with NISCC and undergo an enhanced Access NI check

Clean UK drivers license is required for this role

• 2 x 23-hour contracts

Shifts:

Day Shifts: 9.00am - 9.00pm

Night Shifts: 9:00pm – 9:00am
(Rota prepared 4+ weeks in advance to support your work/life balance)

Mencap holds a Home Office sponsorship licence; however, due to current restrictions on our allocation of Certificates of Sponsorship, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must therefore have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
