Are you a naturally empathetic, caring, and compassionate Support Worker in the UK with experience caring for people with learning disabilities?

Do you want a fulfilling career where you can make a difference and change lives for the better in a culture of kindness and teamwork? Where you’ll be supported with development opportunities to grow both personally and professionally?

Join Gresham House in Staplehurst as a Support Worker and provide care for people with severe learning disabilities, Autism, and challenging behaviors; supporting and encouraging them to lead full and valued lives, enabling more independence.

You’ll be great with people – a real ‘people person’, able to communicate effectively – explaining yourself clearly in the right tone to suit the situation and understanding others’ behaviors and expressions, as well as vocal cues. Having a good sense of humor, resilience, and a willingness to assist residents with personal hygiene are also important.

What you will be doing

You will join an inclusive, supportive team that works well together to provide care for people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. Whether you have experience as a Care Assistant or Support Worker, you will use your knowledge and skills to support people in leading a valued and fulfilled life.

It can be a challenging environment at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience, and vigilance are essential. But it is also hugely rewarding to see the progress of those you support, achieving things they couldn’t do before.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will use your excellent communication skills and experience in Learning Disabilities & Autism to support individuals through their care pathways.

Our rota includes weekday and weekend shifts from 7 am to 2:30 pm, and 2 pm to 9:30 pm, ensuring a balanced team effort. This is a permanent, full-time position with 35 contracted hours.

Where you will be working

Location: Gresham House, Station Road, Staplehurst, Kent, TN12 0PZ

Gresham House specializes in working with epilepsy and complex needs. The service is staffed 24 hours a day by a dedicated team of Support Workers, led by an experienced Registered Manager.

The aim is to help individuals lead full, independent lives through active community engagement, meaningful social networks, and developing coping strategies.

The home features twelve en-suite bedrooms, a quiet room, a double lounge with access to a large garden, and a sensory room. It is located in Staplehurst, Kent, ten miles south of Maidstone, with good train and road links across the south.

In this role you will

This role is available only for a female support worker to assist female residents, including personal hygiene support.

  • Have strong empathy and a caring, compassionate nature
  • Be willing to support residents with personal hygiene
  • Ideally be a driver with a manual UK driver’s license held for at least 3 years (for community visits and activities)
  • Have excellent people and communication skills, and a good sense of humor
  • Deal with challenging behaviors
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach
  • Be reliable, flexible, hardworking, and honest
  • Live locally or within a reasonable commuting distance

You must live in the UK and have the right to work full-time. 20-hour Student and Skilled Worker Visas are not accepted.

What you will get

  • Annual salary of £23,387 (£12.85 hourly)
  • 33 days of annual leave (including Bank Holidays) plus your birthday off
  • Free meals and parking
  • Wellbeing support and activities for work-life balance
  • Career development and training opportunities
  • Pension scheme
  • Life Assurance
  • Enhanced Maternity Package

Additional benefits include retail discounts, special offers, and more.
