Job summary

Disability North is seeking a friendly Personal Assistant to support our sociable 11-year-old daughter with autism, a learning disability, and KPTN disorder. The role covers Saturdays and school holidays (4 hours per week) with some flexibility to help her access activities in the community and build independence.

Responsibilities include attending social and leisure activities, encouraging friendships, and providing prompts for eating, drinking, toileting, and personal care as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience caring for children with learning disabilities is preferred.
• Patience, reliability, and a caring nature are essential.
• Ability to swim is desirable for activity days.
• Flexible and supportive approach to autism and related needs.

Responsibilities

• Support attendance at social and leisure activities (drama, swimming, nature walks).
• Encourage friendships and social interaction with peers.
• Provide prompts for eating, drinking, and toileting when needed.
• Support personal care during menstruation and monitor wellbeing.
• Be reliable, patient, and adaptable during activities and outings.

Job description

Hours: 4 hours per week. Predominantly Saturdays and school holidays, with some flexibility available. We are looking for a fun, caring, and reliable Personal Assistant to support our sociable and energetic 11-year-old daughter with autism, a learning disability, and KPTN disorder to access activities in the community, build confidence, and develop independence.

Duties include:

• Supporting attendance at social and leisure activities, including drama groups, swimming, nature walks, and outings.
• Encouraging friendships and social interaction.
• Providing prompts with eating, drinking, and toileting.
• Supporting personal care during menstruation.
• Monitoring for signs of low blood sugar and possible seizure activity.
