Penderels Trust is seeking a care assistant in Colchester to support an active young lady in daily living. The role includes personal care, promoting independence, and encouraging social activities.

The successful candidate will be patient, reliable, and able to follow care plans. A DBS disclosure is required and training will be provided where needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care assistance (toileting, showering, dressing).
  • Support participation in sports and leisure activities.
  • Encourage socialisation and engagement in activities.
  • Promote friendships and client independence.
  • Build a trusting one-to-one relationship with the client.
  • Assist with gardening tasks as needed.
  • Assist with tube feeding and monitor seizures and ketones/blood sugars.

About The Employer

Support required for a sociable, fun-loving young lady, highly active with no danger awareness. The PA would need experience with supporting people with epilepsy and gastrostomy. However, even with these difficulties, she loves life and is an adventurous and inquisitive young lady.

About The Role

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
  • Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
  • Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.
  • Promote and encourage friendships and independence.
  • Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.
  • Support with gardening.
  • Support with tube feeding and monitoring seizures and ketones/blood sugars.

Only candidates aged 18 or over should apply for this position as you will be required to administer medication.

The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and/or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).

Transport Requirement

Car driver preferred but not essential.

  • To be able to follow instructions accurately.

  • Have good listening skills and be able to provide non-judgemental emotional support.
  • Be empathetic.
  • Previous experience in childcare/special needs is essential.
  • Be able to work flexibly, adapting to the employers needs on a daily basis.
  • Flexibility would be an advantage as the hours may be variable.
  • Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.
  • Have a lively personality.
Required Training

Successful candidates are required to undertake any training that is considered necessary and appropriate to the role.

  • First Aid. Training will be provided by the employer.
  • Epilepsy. PA must already hold relevant qualification.
  • Peg Feed. Training will be provided by the employer.
  • Medication to be administered only in an emergency, not a regular requirement.
  • Awareness of the symptoms of high ketones and low blood sugars (finger prick tests - potential but unlikely) - PA will be given full healthcare plan.

Hours per week: 8 hours per week x 14 weeks pa (school holidays)
