Area: Newcastle upon Tyne

Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and understanding individual to support our 8-year-old daughter. Experience is beneficial, but bespoke training will be provided for suitable candidates. A good level of fitness is required to meet the demands of an active young girl.

Routines are crucial in supporting our daughter, but we also encourage bringing new experiences and activities into the role.

The PA will assist in gradually encouraging our daughter to participate in outdoor activities to enhance her social and independence skills. Parents will plan activities such as walks, park visits, shopping trips, and support group activities, initially accompanied by the parent until the daughter is comfortable with the new PA.

Our daughter uses picture boards and an app-based communication tool. It is essential that the candidate remains calm and gentle to foster a trusting relationship.

Constant supervision is necessary. The role involves working alongside another PA, especially during outings. Our daughter uses a wheelchair outside due to sensory difficulties but enjoys exploring when safe and appropriate.

Understanding her nonverbal cues is vital to provide a supportive environment.

Support will be provided within the family home and during local activities.

Person Specification:

  • A warm, caring, and supportive individual
  • Resilience, patience, and a positive attitude
  • No phone use during working hours (except during breaks or emergencies)
  • Positive attitude towards disability
  • Flexible, reliable, and punctual
  • Confidentiality and respect for privacy
  • Responsibility and emergency response skills
  • Sense of humor and mature attitude, able to maintain individuality within care routines

Preferred: Experience in providing support

There is a genuine occupational requirement for the candidate to be male or female, in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the Equality Act 2010.

This vacancy will close once a suitable candidate is appointed.

Important: At the start of employment, the candidate must have permission to work in the UK.
