Job description

Industry-leading B2B publication Aspire is seeking a features writer to create inspiring and colourful content for its print and online channels. This position is for an initial fixed 15-month contract, as part of maternity cover.

Aspire is the leading luxury travel trade title in the UK and part of Jacobs Media Group, Europe’s largest B2B media company within the travel and hospitality sectors.

The successful candidate will report into Aspire’s acting editor and will have a flair for writing creative and colourful copy that best showcases luxury travel experiences. The ideal candidate will be a confident writer with at least three years’ feature-writing experience. You will have excellent communication skills and a can-do attitude.

A knowledge of the travel industry and the players in the luxury landscape are desirable but not essential. This is a great opportunity to shape editorial content and develop skills such as public speaking, social media and event management.

The role will involve the following:
  1. Writing and filing accurate, creative and inspiring long form features and reviews
  2. Conducting interviews and filing Q&A pieces and news content for Aspire’s print and digital channels
  3. Uploading content online and writing engaging social media posts to promote editorial
  4. Working with clients across the travel and tourism sectors to create advertorial content
  5. Representing Aspire at events across the industry, sometimes outside working hours
  6. Attending Aspire’s own events and representing the brand
  7. Representing Aspire on international press and familiarisation/educational trips
Essential requirements:
  1. Articulate with exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  2. Able to create fresh and engaging content for our travel trade readers
  3. Strong eye for detail and proofing experience
  4. Great organisational skills and able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  5. Good commercial awareness
  6. Three-years’ feature-writing experience, either freelance or in an office environment.
  7. Energetic, organised and highly professional
  8. Good time-management and the ability to work to deadlines
  9. Able to work Monday-Friday, 9am-5.30pm as your core hours, but willing to attend additional events outside of office hours
  10. Able and willing to travel overseas regularly
  11. You must be willing to work three days a week in the office in Victoria, with the option of two days working remotely
Desirable requirements:
  1. Knowledge of the travel industry
  2. An understanding of the needs of the luxury consumer
  3. Public speaking experience
  4. Experience in presenting, producing or editing videos
  5. Understanding of client management or working with commercial partners
  6. Experience of digital content-management systems
  7. NCTJ-qualification or equivalent journalism/writing qualifications
  8. Shorthand
