Job summary

MW Recruitment Limited is assisting a fast-growing fintech in appointing a Head of Compliance & MLRO in the United Kingdom. The role will own compliance and financial crime, including SMF16/17 responsibilities with FCA interaction and oversight across the business.

You will partner with the CEO and Board to scale the control environment, embed Consumer Duty, and guide regulatory decision-making in product and commercial choices, with potential equity considerations.

Qualifications

• Extensive FCA regulatory experience within fintech or financial services.
• Experience with SMF16/SMF17 responsibilities or strong readiness to assume them.
• Ability to influence Board and senior management.
• Excellent regulatory judgement and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own and continue to develop the firm's compliance framework as the business scales.
• Provide practical regulatory advice to the Board, senior management and wider business.
• Act as principal point of contact with the FCA and build a credible regulator relationship.
• Lead the firm's approach to financial crime, AML, KYC, sanctions and related controls.
• Ensure regulatory developments are understood and translated into action across the business.
• Provide oversight and challenge around new products, propositions and strategic initiatives.
• Ensure Consumer Duty is embedded within the business as it grows.
• Develop monitoring, reporting and governance appropriate to a growing regulated business.
• Collaborate with Product, Technology, Operations and senior management; avoid a siloed control function.
• Support the business in using technology and AI to improve the control environment and scalability.
• Provide clear reporting to the Board and committees.
• Help build the Compliance function as requirements evolve.
