Job summary

The North York Moors National Park Authority is seeking a Farm Conservation Officer on a full-time fixed-term contract until 31 March 2029. You will advise farmers and land managers on sustainable farming practices and Defra schemes to protect and enhance the National Park.

You will work with farm clusters, promote soil health, emissions reduction, agroforestry and peatland restoration, and help deliver conservation and land-management objectives for this iconic landscape.

Qualifications

• Experience working with farmers and land managers to achieve environmental and farm sustainability objectives.
• Practical knowledge of farmland habitats and land management.
• Familiarity with Defra schemes (ELM, SFI, CS, Landscape Recovery).
• Knowledge of High Nature Value Farming and LFA grazing livestock systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical farming and environmental advice to farmers and land managers to protect and enhance the National Park.
• Support farmers in understanding environmental potential and Defra schemes for sustainable farming.
• Coordinate with farm clusters to encourage engagement, training and collaborative actions.
• Promote soil health, nutrient management, reduced emissions, agroforestry and peatland restoration.
• Coordinate activities with conservation schemes and ensure policies are followed.
