Job summary

Derbyshire County Council seeks a Family Time Assistant for the Chesterfield area. The full-time role (37 hours per week) is based at Birdholme Children's Centre, Chesterfield, with responsibilities including coordinating Family Time, transporting children, and liaising with professionals and families.

  • Contribute information to parenting assessments and alert managers to changes in family needs; respond to emergencies liaising with colleagues and carers as appropriate.
  • Ensure good communication with parents, carers and foster carers to support delivery; provide appropriate challenge and behaviour management when needed.
  • Complete records of work undertaken with families in accordance with the Department’s systems and processes.
  • Ensure safeguarding of children and young people in line with safeguarding procedures, health and safety requirements and maintaining confidentiality.

An exciting opportunity has come up for a Family Time Assistant within the Chesterfield area. The post is full-time, 37 hours per week, based at Birdholme Children's Centre, Chesterfield.

The purpose of the role is to support the coordination of Family Time including transportation of children, liaising with professionals and families, and supervising and recording Family Time sessions.

Key responsibilities
  • To support and observe the delivery of family time, between a child and their parents/carers. This will include role modelling and demonstrating approaches, intervening and advising as required. This may be delivered virtually or in a Derbyshire County Council building or community setting.
  • Contribute information to parenting assessments and alert managers to changes in family circumstances or needs and respond in emergency situations liaising with colleagues, other agencies, and carers as appropriate.
  • Ensure good communication with parents, carers and foster carers as required to support the effective delivery of family time. Provide appropriate challenge, which may include aspects of conflict and behaviour management.
  • Complete records of work undertaken with families in accordance with the Department’s systems and processes.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of children and young people in accordance with safeguarding procedures, health and safety requirements and relevant processes and practices maintaining the confidentiality of families.
