Job summary

Dorset Council in Weymouth is seeking a Grade 8 Family Worker to join the Family Help team serving the Weymouth/Portland area. You will provide direct work with children, young people and families in homes and communities, building parenting skills through practical activities.

You will assess family needs, write family plans and chair meetings to secure positive outcomes. Training and mentoring are available in a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in working with children and/or families.
• Good communication and IT skills.
• Organised, empathetic, able to work in a team and independently.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct work with children, young people, parents and families in the family home and other community locations.
• Assess parenting skills and help build physical and emotional caring abilities through practical activities.
• Complete whole family assessments and write a family plan.
• Chair and manage meetings to support outcomes for families.
• Use case management systems, databases and BI tools as directed by manager.
• Co-work cases with other professionals including social workers.
• Keep up to date with local service provision.
• Support families during crisis situations.
• Link schools with local services as their liaison.
