Job summary

Aberdeenshire Council invites applications for two Family Support Worker positions to help develop a preventative support service for vulnerable young people aged 16-18. One role is based at Wyness Hall, Inverurie, and the other at Central Buchan Office, Strichen.

Role involves youth services, early help, family support and risk reduction. You will work with young people, families and partner agencies to assess need, agree support plans and help move toward stability.

We are looking for two Family Support Workers to help develop a new preventative support service for vulnerable young people aged 16-18 who do not meet statutory Throughcare, Continuing Care or Aftercare criteria. One position will be based at Wyness Hall, Inverurie, and the other at Central Buchan Office, Strichen (for Strichen please apply through vacancy ABS48588).

Working within Youth Services, you will provide practical, relationship-based support to young people and families across Aberdeenshire. The role will focus on early help, family support, transition planning and reducing the risk of crisis, including homelessness, justice involvement, family breakdown or disengagement from education, training or employment.

You will work directly with young people, families and partner agencies to assess need, agree support plans, build trusted relationships and help young people move towards greater stability and independence.

You are looking for someone who has:

• Experience of working with young people, families or vulnerable groups.
• Good communication, assessment, recording and partnership-working skills.
• An understanding of trauma-informed, relational and strengths-based practice.
• Confidence working with complexity, risk and changing family circumstances.
• A practical, flexible and persistent approach to supporting young people and families.

You must be able to travel across Aberdeenshire. This post will require PVG Scheme membership and satisfactory pre-employment checks.

Requirements

This post is regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
