Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is assisting a welcoming Northampton primary school to recruit a permanent Family Support Worker from September 2026. You will provide early intervention and practical and emotional support to children and families, building strong relationships with parents, carers and school staff to improve attendance, wellbeing and engagement.

The role offers a full-time, permanent contract with a competitive salary based on experience, ongoing professional development, safeguarding

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, families, or vulnerable individuals.
  • Caring, patient and able to build trusting relationships.
  • Experience in primary school, education, family support, youth work, social care, or similar setting.
  • Confident communicating with parents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Organised, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to children and families who may need extra help.
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils, parents, and carers.
  • Support families with attendance, punctuality, behaviour, wellbeing and engagement.
  • Identify concerns and develop practical strategies with parents to support their children.
  • Assist pupils with social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties.
  • Help families access local services and additional support.
  • Collaborate with pastoral, safeguarding, SEND and leadership teams.
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Family Support Worker - Primary School

Are you an empathetic, approachable, and dedicated individual who can build strong relationships with parents, carers, and children while providing practical and emotional support? We are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Northampton that is looking to appoint a permanent Family Support Worker from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine and lasting difference to the lives of children and families. You will work closely with pupils, parents, carers, school staff, and external professionals to provide early intervention, strengthen family engagement, and help children thrive both in school and at home.

Your Role Will Include:
  • Providing one-to-one support to children and families who may require additional help
  • Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils, parents, and carers
  • Supporting families with issues affecting attendance, punctuality, behaviour, wellbeing, and engagement
  • Working with parents and carers to identify concerns and develop practical strategies to support their children
  • Supporting pupils experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties
  • Helping families access appropriate local services, resources, and additional support
  • Working closely with the school's pastoral, safeguarding, SEND, and leadership teams
  • Supporting early intervention and identifying concerns before they escalated
  • Monitoring pupil and family progress and maintaining accurate records
  • Contributing to safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Encouraging strong and positive relationships between home and school
  • Helping create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every child can succeed
We're Looking For Someone Who:
  • Has experience working with children, families, parents/carers, or vulnerable individuals
  • Is caring, patient, approachable, and able to build relationships based on trust
  • Understands the importance of early intervention and family engagement
  • Has experience within a primary school, education, family support, youth work, social care, or a similar setting
  • Is confident communicating with parents and carers from a range of backgrounds
  • Can work sensitively and professionally with families experiencing challenging circumstances
  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Is organised, reliable, and able to work independently as well as part of a wider team
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or is willing to obtain one
