Family Support Worker | Loughborough, however, this may change in line with the needs of the organisation | Full Time – 37 hours per week | £13.12 per hour

Our client is a domestic abuse and sexual violence charity, with a range of roles available across its services in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

In this role, you will provide support for children who are or have been affected by domestic abuse and/or sexual violence.

Are you the right person for the job?

  • A recognised qualification in social work, education, youth and community, family work, other relevant qualification and/or three years’ experience of working in a paid or unpaid capacity with children and young people in a group and on a one-to-one basis
  • An understanding of domestic abuse and sexual violence and the ways in which this can affect individuals
  • Experience of working with families
  • An understanding of multi-agency working, including Early Help, child protection and safeguarding procedures
  • An ability to work flexibly, as required, including evening and weekend work
  • Experience in using basic IT programmes, email and the internet
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working under pressure
  • An ability to use own initiative, and to make appropriate decisions within boundaries set by the line manager and organisational policies and procedures
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality in a role of this kind
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining good relationships with a wide variety of people
  • Commitment to equal opportunities practice
  • Driving licence, business insurance and ability to travel across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland

What will your role look like?

  • To deliver one-to-one support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse and/or sexual violence
  • To deliver group sessions to children and young people affected by domestic abuse and/or sexual violence
  • To support parents and carers in enhancing their parenting skills
  • To deliver training and awareness sessions with local practitioners
  • To provide healthy relationship sessions in local schools and youth settings
  • To create and maintain accurate client records, including referral data, risk assessments, needs assessments, support plans, safety plans, case notes and insight
  • To maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality in all aspects of work
  • To maintain good working relationships and links with outside agencies and refer to specialist agencies where necessary
  • To actively implement and adhere to all LWA policies and procedures at all times
  • Where appropriate, to attend meetings, conferences and forums on behalf of LWA
  • To attend LWA meetings to advise on service issues, report on developments and requirements, and contribute to discussions affecting the organisation and its clients
  • To do all else to further the aims and objectives of the organisation, and to assist its Directors, paid staff and volunteers to work to the highest standards of service provision for its clients
