Job description

About The Role

Are you a compassionate, adaptable support worker who wants to make a lasting difference for children, young people and families? We are recruiting a Family Support Worker to join our Young People & Families team in Glasgow.

You will provide flexible, intensive whole-family support to children and young people on the edges of care and their families. Building on each family’s strengths, you will help them overcome current challenges, develop resilience and access the right support at the right time. You will also work closely with Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership and other family support providers through the Glasgow Intensive Family Support Service model.

Right There is a Scottish charity with more than 200 years of experience standing alongside people. Last year, we supported almost 4,000 people affected by homelessness, poverty, addiction or family breakdown. We meet people where they are, without judgement, providing tailored support that helps them stay in their homes and connected to the people they love.

This role is a fixed term contract for a period of 18-months.

Your role
  • Build trusting relationships with children, young people, parents, carers and wider family networks.
  • Provide high-quality, person-centred support in family homes and local communities.
  • Complete strengths-based whole-family assessments and review progress towards agreed outcomes.
  • Plan and deliver tailored interventions, including practical support, parenting guidance and emotional wellbeing support.
  • Advocate for children and families and help them access relevant services and community opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate case records and produce clear, comprehensive reports.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, social work, housing, local authorities and partner agencies.
  • Contribute to reflective practice, continuous improvement and shared learning.
  • Deliver support in line with GIRFEC, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Right There's psychologically informed approach.
What you'll bring

You will bring empathy and a commitment to working alongside families without judgement. You will be comfortable working flexibly, managing competing priorities and responding calmly when circumstances change.

  • A relevant professional qualification, such as SVQ Level 2 Social Services and Healthcare (Children and Young People), a relevant HNC or equivalent—or a willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience of supporting children, young people and families facing challenges, including those on the edges of care.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting families, including trauma and poverty.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and policy, including GIRFEC, UNCRC and The Promise.
  • Working knowledge of the SSSC Codes of Practice.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, organisation and time-management skills.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and producing clear reports.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, travel within the agreed area and respond to crisis situations at short notice.
Our offer
  • Six weeks' annual leave in your first year, rising to eight weeks in your second year, including public holidays.
  • The option to buy or sell five days' annual leave.
  • People's Pension enrolment from day one if eligible, with 5% employer and 5% employee contributions.
  • Life insurance worth four times your salary.
  • Enhanced family-friendly and compassionate leave.
  • 24-hour support through our Employee Assistance Programme, Wellbeing Hub and self-care resources.
  • Trauma-informed training, an annual development plan and funded SVQ qualifications for appropriate roles.
  • Health Shield, Cycle to Work, Glasgow Credit Union offers, Blue Light Card access and other employee rewards.
About Us

We are a charity that recently celebrated 200 years of standing alongside people in Scotland. Last year we supported almost 4,000 people to stay in their homes and stay connected to the people they love.
