Beaufort Special School is seeking to appoint a compassionate, experienced, and proactive family support worker to join our dedicated team. This is a vital and rewarding role that will place you at the heart of our school community, supporting the wellbeing, development, and success of our pupils and their families.

Beaufort is a caring, inclusive special school in Birmingham, committed to providing outstanding pastoral support and promoting personal excellence for every pupil. We work closely with families, external agencies, and community services to ensure every child is given the opportunity to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

About The Role

As our family support worker, you will provide high-quality, well-planned pastoral support and guidance to pupils and their families. Your role will be central in:

  • promoting high expectations and raising aspirations for pupils through strong, supportive relationships
  • enabling pupils to achieve academic and personal progress, with a sense of pride in their school experience
  • engaging with a wide range of external agencies to provide targeted support around health, emotional, social, and behavioural needs
  • working with families in crisis or experiencing critical need—often over extended periods of time
  • supporting the safeguarding and child protection framework, working alongside the school’s designated safeguarding leads to ensure robust, fit-for-purpose procedures
  • promoting excellent attendance and punctuality, in collaboration with the Inclusion and senior leadership teams

This role will require a high level of emotional intelligence, sensitivity, resilience, and the ability to form strong professional relationships with families, pupils, staff, and partner agencies.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a candidate who is:

  • experienced in supporting children, young people, and families, particularly those with additional or complex needs
  • knowledgeable in safeguarding, child protection, and current legislation relevant to working with vulnerable children and families
  • skilled in working with external agencies, including health, social care, and mental health services
  • a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and emotional literacy
  • able to manage sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy, and discretion
  • organised, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • committed to the values and inclusive ethos of Beaufort Special School

Experience of working in a school or education setting is desirable but not essential—what matters most is your ability to connect, support, and advocate for our children and their families.

Why Join Beaufort?

  • a strong, supportive team and a welcoming school community
  • the opportunity to make a real and lasting impact on pupils’ lives
  • ongoing training and professional development
  • a caring and inclusive working environment where wellbeing is valued
