Job summary

Brighton Highly Regarded Regional Law Firm is seeking an experienced Family Solicitor (8+ PQE) to join its established Family team in Brighton. The role focuses on financial remedy work arising from divorce, including mid- to high-net-worth matters, alongside a broader family caseload.

You will manage your own caseload with autonomy, build client relationships, and play a key role in developing the department within a collaborative, ambitious environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Managing a broad and varied caseload of family matters, with emphasis on financial remedy work
• Advising on complex financial matters, including mid- to high-net-worth cases
• Advising on pre-nuptial agreements, cohabitation disputes and jointly owned property
• Handling private children matters and divorce proceedings
• Developing effective case strategies and providing clear, pragmatic legal advice
• Conducting negotiations and working towards successful outcomes for clients
• Preparing pleadings, statements, schedules and other court documentation; issuing and conducting proceedings where appropriate
• Briefing and working effectively with Counsel, experts and other professional advisers
• Representing clients at hearings and providing advocacy where appropriate
• Managing client relationships from initial instruction through to conclusion
• Ensuring matters progress efficiently within timescales and to a high professional standard
• Maintaining excellent standards of client care, confidentiality and file management
• Maintaining appropriate funding arrangements and monitoring client balances
• Managing WIP, billing and costs throughout matters
• Ensuring AML and regulatory compliance
• Maintaining time recording and working towards financial targets
• Ensuring files comply with internal procedures and quality standards
• Working within third-party funding requirements
• Contributing to the development of the department and supporting junior members
• Attending training and professional development opportunities

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Family Solicitor, ideally 8+ PQE, to join the highly regarded Family team of a successful and well-established regional law firm in Brighton.

This is a senior opportunity for a solicitor looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive, collegiate and professionally ambitious environment.

The role has a particular focus on financial remedy work arising from divorce, including mid- to high-net-worth matters, alongside a broader family caseload encompassing pre-nuptial agreements, cohabitation disputes, private children matters and divorce proceedings.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage their own caseload with a high degree of autonomy, develop and maintain client relationships, and play an active role in the continued growth of the Family department.

The Role

You will manage your own caseload and provide high-quality, commercially focused advice to a diverse client base. Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing a broad and varied caseload of family matters, with a strong emphasis on financial remedy work
• Advising on complex financial matters, including mid- to high-net-worth cases
• Advising on pre-nuptial agreements, cohabitation disputes and jointly owned property
• Handling private children matters and divorce proceedings
• Developing effective case strategies and providing clear, pragmatic legal advice
• Conducting negotiations and working towards successful outcomes for clients

Compliance & Financial Management

As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to demonstrate strong commercial and financial management skills, including:

• Maintaining appropriate funding arrangements and monitoring client balances
• Managing WIP, billing and costs throughout matters
• Ensuring compliance with AML and other regulatory requirements
• Maintaining accurate time recording and working towards agreed financial targets
• Ensuring files comply with the firm's internal procedures and relevant professional and quality standards
• Working effectively within any applicable third-party funding requirements

Business Development & Leadership

This role would suit an ambitious solicitor who is keen to contribute beyond fee-earning and play a meaningful role in the continued development of the department.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Family Solicitor at 8+ PQE, although PQE will be treated as a guide rather than a strict requirement.

• Strong technical knowledge and excellent attention to detail
• The ability to manage your own caseload with a high degree of autonomy
