Job summary

Portsmouth City Council in Portsmouth is seeking a Team Leader for Family Help to deliver an integrated early help and Child in Need service. You will provide day-to-day leadership, supervise practitioners and ensure high-quality, timely support that meets statutory requirements.

You will oversee risk, thresholds and care planning, contribute to audits and inspections, and work with multi-agency partners to drive continuous improvement. Fixed-term for maternity leave.

Qualifications

• Qualified Social Worker registered with a relevant professional body.
• Substantial post-qualifying experience within Children’s Services.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and statutory framework understanding.
• Ability to lead risk assessment and decision-making in complex multi-agency settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership to a team of social workers and Family Help Lead Practitioners.
• Oversee allocation and progression of casework and manage performance against KPIs and timescales.
• Provide reflective supervision, coaching and mentoring to practitioners.
• Help drive service transformation and improvement activity in Family Help.
