Job summary

Reading Borough Council is seeking a caring and motivated Family Group Worker to join our Family Help Service. You will deliver activities for children aged 0-5 and their families across our Family Hub locations, supporting early years development and family engagement.

The role requires a recognised childcare qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent), experience with SEND, safeguarding knowledge, and strong teamwork and record-keeping skills to help vulnerable families access the right services

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging activities for children aged 0-5 and their families.
  • Provide high-quality crèche provision supporting development across physical, emotional, social, and language areas.
  • Encourage parent participation to promote strong attachment and family relationships.
  • Monitor children's development and contribute to recording progress and outcomes.
  • Support vulnerable families and signpost to appropriate services.
  • Help maintain safe, welcoming Family Hub environments.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to deliver services for local families.

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and motivated Family Group Worker to join our Family Help Service. Working across our Family Hub locations, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality activities and support for children aged 0-5 and their families, helping to improve outcomes and ensure every child gets the best possible start in life

About the role

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A recognised childcare qualification at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children aged 0-5 and their families.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable children and families.
  • Experience working with children with SEND.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and early years development.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to maintain accurate records and work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting children and families
