Job summary

The Sterling Choice is seeking a Technical Manager for a major, technically complex food manufacturing site. You’ll lead a sizeable QA and Compliance function across multiple areas, sitting directly beneath the Senior Technical Manager and owning day-to-day technical performance of the factory.

You’ll collaborate with Operations, address issues as they occur, drive food safety and quality standards, and ensure actions are sustained after problems are resolved.

Qualifications

• Strong technical or QA management experience in food manufacturing.
• Understanding retailer standards and audits.
• Level 4 HACCP and Food Safety qualifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as the senior technical voice on site when the Senior Technical Manager is away and present to senior leadership/retail.

Job description

You shouldn’t need six months to grow into this role.

You’re someone who can walk into a large, complex food manufacturing site, take ownership and be trusted to make the call when it matters.

As Technical Manager, you’ll sit directly beneath the Senior Technical Manager and lead a sizeable, well-established QA and Compliance function across multiple areas of the operation.

The team is stable and experienced, so this isn’t about coming in to fix a struggling department.

It’s about leading it.

You’ll have experienced managers reporting into you and be responsible for the day-to-day technical performance of the factory. You’ll work closely with Operations, deal with issues as they happen, drive food safety and quality standards and make sure actions don’t disappear once the immediate problem has been solved.

When the Senior Technical Manager isn’t there, you’ll be the senior Technical voice on site.

That means being comfortable making decisions, challenging when necessary and having the credibility to stand in front of Operations, senior leadership or a major retailer and give people confidence in your judgement.

The site is investing significantly for the future, with major expansion projects underway and increasing production planned over the coming years. You’ll have the opportunity to be part of that journey while working within one of the largest and most technically complex operations in its sector.

You’ll need strong Technical or QA management experience within food manufacturing, ideally from a sizeable or complex operation. You’ll understand retailer standards, audits and factory Technical, with Level 4 HACCP and Food Safety qualifications.

This could suit an established Factory Technical Manager, or a Technical Manager from a smaller site ready to bring that experience into a much larger operation.

They don’t need someone waiting to become the Technical leader in the room. They need someone who already knows how to be one.
