Qualifications

Job description

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and delivering projects on Thames Water buildings, including structural (Lifecycle) projects and facilities for staff (Welfare). These projects involve a range of buildings, including Listed and operationally important sites.

You will manage a portfolio of projects ranging from approximately £30,000 to £2 million, from initial scoping through to completion, including reporting and handover. This role offers a good work-life balance and involves joining a collaborative team with travel across the Thames Valley and/or London Region.

Responsibilities as a Facilities Project Engineer
  • Independently scope projects, liaising with Operational Specialists to ensure comprehensive project definitions.
  • Manage tender processes with framework contractors, including review and award decisions.
  • Ensure CDM compliance, acting as Client and managing Principal Designer and Contractor, ensuring safety, timeliness, budget adherence, and legal compliance.
  • Coordinate with the Controller of Premises on Pre-Construction information, and review Contractors' plans and safety documentation.
  • Induct contractors and their supply chains on site hazards and safety issues.
  • Maintain detailed records of health, safety, environmental, and quality performance.
  • Communicate regularly with the Controller of Premises, managing contractor performance and resolving site issues.
  • Forecast project spending accurately, report to delivery managers, and escalate issues as needed, following governance procedures.

A valid driving license is required as the role involves travel, with a car allowance provided.

Location: Based at Newbury or Swindon, with travel to various sites depending on project needs.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.

Candidate Requirements
  • HND/HNC/BEng/NVQ Level 4 in construction management, mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, or equivalent, or a strong construction background.
  • Experience in construction or facilities management.
  • Experience in project scoping, contractor management, and performance auditing.
  • Strong project management, communication, and financial skills, with knowledge of construction methods, health and safety, and legal regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop professional, customer-focused relationships.
