Job summary

Crawley Borough Council is seeking two proactive facilities team members to support a range of community sites, maintain spaces to a high standard and keep venues safe and welcoming for events and everyday use.

One role is permanent and the other a 12-month fixed term, with a shift rota including early/late shifts, weekends and bank holidays. You will need a full UK driving licence, uniform provided and First Aid training or willingness to train, plus access to a standby payment scheme.

Responsibilities

  • Customer service and venue support across multiple sites.
  • Open and close venues for events and activities, including evenings when required.
  • Carry out routine repairs and maintenance (basic carpentry and plumbing).
  • Perform health and safety inspections, fire alarm testing and security checks.
  • Respond to emergencies and support first aid incidents where trained.
  • Support upkeep of allotments, sports pavilions, cemeteries and public facilities.
  • Collect, sort and distribute internal/external mail; purchase maintenance materials.
  • Coordinate contractor repairs and inspect/maintain vehicles and pool cars.
  • Support special events, elections and other council activities as required.

Job description

We are looking for two proactive and customer-focused individuals to join our Facilities team. One role will be a permanent role and the other will be a 12 month fixed term contract, please indicate in your application which role you are applying for.

This varied and hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across multiple sites, delivering excellent customer service, maintaining facilities to a high standard, and ensuring our community spaces are safe, welcoming, and ready for use.

As part of the mobile facilities team, you will help ensure customers can access the right space at the right time, supporting a range of venues including community centres, the Town Hall, sports pavilions, public toilets, cemeteries, and allotments.

Your duties will include:

Customer service and venue support

  • welcome customers and provide exceptional service across our facilities
  • open and close venues for events and activities, including evenings when required

Facilities maintenance and compliance

  • carry out routine repairs and maintenance, including basic carpentry and plumbing
  • perform health and safety inspections, fire alarm testing, and security checks
  • respond to emergencies and support first aid incidents where appropriately trained

Grounds and community assets

  • support the upkeep of allotments, sports pavilions, cemeteries, and public facilities
  • assist with strimming, rubbish removal, and general site maintenance

Operational support

  • collect, sort, and distribute internal and external mail
  • purchase maintenance materials and coordinate contractor repairs
  • inspect and maintain our vehicles, pool cars, and pool bikes
  • support special events, elections, and other council activities as required.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

Additional information

The role requires you to work a shift rota including early shifts, late shift, weekend and bank holiday. The standard working week is an average of 37 hours per week on an eight week rolling rota. You will be required to undertake out of hours call out as part of the rota, standby payment will be applied.

A full and current UK driving licence will be an essential requirement of the role.

You will be required to wear a uniform which is provided.

You will have First Aid certification or be willing to undertake training. Once qualified, a First Aid allowance will be payable.
