Job summary

BD Plymouth is seeking a Facilities Technician to maintain all environmental conditions related to critical building systems. You will perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive and breakdown work on mechanical systems throughout the site.

You will manage spares, provide parts lists and timelines for remedial works, and ensure a safe, clean, and compliant working environment. Supervisory duties include overseeing subcontractors and coordinating cover for holidays and sickness.

Qualifications

• Completed an apprenticeship and hold a Level 3 technical and vocational qualification or Level 3 Diploma in a relevant subject.
• Knowledge of Mechanical systems, BMS Systems, HVAC, Boilers, Boiler Control Systems and emergency lighting systems.
• Fundamental understanding of mechanical, electrical and other utility systems.
• Up to 2 years Mechanical facilities experience with flexibility and innovation.
• Experience in Facility Equipment fault finding and maintenance activities.
• Experience in building services (Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Systems, Building Fabric, etc)
• Excellent interpersonal and PC literacy.
• Ability to assess urgency and impact (safety-critical vs routine maintenance).

Responsibilities

• Ensure reactive tasks are completed and highlight areas for improvements.
• Provide parts lists and timescales for remedial works and issue site communications.
• Maintain Safe and Healthy working environment and wear PPE.
• Keep plant rooms clean, locked, and well-maintained.
• Supervise and monitor subcontractors on site.
• Arrange holiday and sickness cover and be flexible with shifts.
• Complete tasks with HS awareness and proper implementation.
• Operate a Permit to Work System per BD Health & Safety procedures.
• Be flexible with working times for emergencies or alarms on the BMS.
• Communicate via email and quote/order parts efficiently.

Job Description

As the Facilities Technician, onsite at BD Plymouth, you will ensure all environmental conditions are maintained at all times with regard to critical building systems. Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive and breakdown works to all mechanical within the site.

Main Responsibilities Will Include

• Ensure that reactive tasks throughout the building are completed and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made.
• Ensure that suitable spares are available to carry out both maintenance and reactive works. Provide parts lists and estimated timescales to carry out remedial works and send out site communications where necessary.
• Ensure the provision of a Safe and Healthy working environment, include the wearing of relevant PPE.
• Ensure that all plant rooms under your responsibility are always locked and are kept in a clean and tidy condition.
• Supervise and monitor of sub-contractors works whilst they are on site undertaking maintenance.
• Arrange and provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible with working patterns where necessary.
• Ensure assigned tasks are actioned and completed as appropriate.
• Ensure tasks as directed are completed with the appropriate H&S awareness and implementation.
• Operate a Permit to Work System in accordance with BD, Health & Safety procedures.
• Flexible with your working times towards the end of the day in the event of an emergency or if a critical alarm appears on the BMS.
• Proficient on computers to enable you to communicate via email and quote / order parts.

About You

• Ability to assess urgency and impact (e.g., safety-critical vs. routine maintenance).

The salary range information: £34,000 - £38,000
