This role is to maintain and develop SSTL’s satellite manufacturing and operational facilities across our seven sites. The role will develop and manage projects in an evolving organisation, from new facilities and capabilities to drive the business towards becoming a net carbon zero company.

Key Tasks

  1. Monitor and maintain all facilities, utilities, and site services across SSTL’s sites, ensuring high availability and operational order, including our high-specification large clean rooms. Develop and manage preventative maintenance and lifecycle schedules for key plant and facilities.
  2. Monitor, respond to, and manage breakdowns and alarms. Carry out emergency repairs or adjustments to prevent callouts of specialist services or to mitigate deterioration of faults while awaiting specialists.
  3. Take responsibility for designing, estimating, planning, managing, and signing off on a wide range of electrical, mechanical, and civil enhancements to SSTL’s facilities, including administration and manufacturing resources.
  4. Plan, supervise, monitor, and verify work carried out by subcontractors, sometimes outside normal hours to reduce disruption.
  5. Supervise the delivery, positioning, relocation, and integration of new plant and equipment.
  6. Review and maintain maintenance logs and budgets, completing all necessary documentation for tasks.
  7. Observe, audit, and advise on Health and Safety standards and procedures in line with company policy.
  8. Manage and dispose of hazardous materials according to COSHH and REACH regulations, supporting the SSTL QA Manager.
  9. Develop and manage risk assessments for various activities.
  10. Develop technologies and solutions to reduce energy consumption and support the company's move towards carbon neutrality.
  11. Provide out-of-hours support for the sites and facilities.

Previous Experience

  1. Proven experience in construction or facilities management, supporting essential services, managing outsourced contractors, and collaborating with service providers.
  2. Practical skills or trade experience.
  3. Background in general building construction and services maintenance projects.
  4. Flexible and willing approach to various tasks necessary for the company's operations.
  5. Competence with mechanical and electrical services and troubleshooting.
  6. Skilled in using mechanical & electrical tools and test equipment.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
  • Higher National Diploma or equivalent in engineering or facilities-related discipline (preferable).
  • Relevant work experience in facilities management within construction or manufacturing industries.
  • Nebosh Diploma or IOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health (advantageous).
  • Full driving license required for site travel.
  • Ability to attain Security Clearance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing, persuading, and negotiating at all levels.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good presentation skills and ability to liaise with customers and technical staff.
  • Flexible, adaptable, proactive, and initiative-taking.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and multi-project management skills.
  • Decision-making and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to deliver solutions under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrate company values: accountability, drive & delivery, effective communication, self-management, and teamwork.
