Job description

North West England St Helens| Multi-Site Role | Permanent

Our client, a leading operator of critical industrial infrastructure, is seeking an experienced Facilities Engineer to join their engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a multi-skilled engineer looking to take on a varied and autonomous role within a highly regulated industrial environment.

This position offers an excellent basic salary of £61,000, with additional on-call and operational allowances typically increasing annual earnings by £8,000-£10,000.

The Opportunity

As a Facilities Engineer, you'll be responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of several industrial process facilities across multiple sites in the North West. The role combines hands-on engineering, maintenance planning, contractor management, fault finding and emergency response, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical and operational responsibility.

Working closely with operational teams and customers, you'll play a key role in maintaining plant availability, improving reliability and ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate preventative and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Supervise contractors and maintenance personnel, ensuring compliance with safe systems of work.
  • Manage Permit to Work activities and site isolations.
  • Carry out mechanical, electrical and instrumentation fault finding where authorised.
  • Perform routine inspections, condition monitoring and plant health checks.
  • Support plant start-up, shutdown and operational troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities through the site's maintenance management system.
  • Monitor plant performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Produce technical reports, maintenance documentation and incident investigations.
  • Build strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Act as the senior operational representative during emergency situations when required.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
Working Hours
  • Monday to Friday
  • Typical finish: 4:00pm-4:30pm Monday to Thursday
  • Earlier finish on Fridays where operational requirements allow.

The contracted hours are 42 hours per week.

On-Call Requirement

This role forms part of a 1 in 4 on-call rota, covering Friday through to Friday.

Whilst on call, you'll respond to operational issues and emergency breakdowns across the sites. Weekend attendance is typically limited to planned site checks and any reactive call-outs that arise.

Additional hours are managed through a Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) system, providing flexibility while ensuring operational needs remain fully supported.
