Job summary

Hull City Council is seeking a reliable Caretaker to maintain safe, clean, and welcoming Hull Training and Adult Education Service buildings and grounds. The role covers opening/locking, setting up spaces, light repairs, and supervising contractors across multiple sites.

The ideal candidate has practical maintenance skills, a full driving licence, and a strong focus on safety and safeguarding. Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance or DIY.
• Good practical maintenance and problem-solving skills.
• A full driving licence is essential.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Basic literacy and numeracy.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities at work.
• Commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.

Responsibilities

• Open and secure buildings and facilities.
• Set up rooms for classes and examinations.
• Carry out basic repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Maintain clean, safe, hygienic environments across sites.
• Undertake grounds maintenance and external cleaning as needed.
• Monitor heating systems and perform routine checks.
• Supervise contractors on site and report issues.
• Assist with furniture moves and transport between sites.
• Travel between centres using council vehicles; drive as required.
• Support safeguarding and health & safety procedures.
