We are seeking a proactive Facilities Assistant / Campus Support Technician to support the smooth operation, safety, and readiness of our campus environment in Leeds. This dual role combines hands-on technical and facilities support with a strong emphasis on student service, operational excellence, and health and safety compliance.
You’ll play a vital role in ensuring students and staff benefit from a high-quality learning and working environment, whether that's setting up equipment for a studio session, maintaining facilities, assisting with campus events, or upholding safety standards.
Responsibilities
Student Technical Support
Provide front-line technical support to students across academic disciplines during practical sessions, lessons, and independent study.
Prepare and maintain classrooms and studios to ensure clean, safe, and professional learning spaces.
Set up, configure, and troubleshoot technical equipment and software used in creative media disciplines.
Deliver technical demonstrations and tutorials, ensuring students understand and safely operate specialist equipment.
Support student events, open days, and showcases, including equipment logistics and setup.
Oversee student behaviour and studio usage, facilitating bookings and monitoring attendance.
Manage equipment loans, track usage, and support day-to-day operations of campus technical resources.
Facilities & Campus Operations
Conduct routine building and grounds checks, addressing or escalating maintenance issues promptly.
Support minor repairs and liaise with contractors for larger projects.
Ensure all teaching and building equipment is operational, well-maintained, and presentable.
Monitor stock of consumables and support purchasing and supplier coordination.
Act as a keyholder, assisting with the opening/closing of campus buildings.
Participate in cleaning oversight and ensure environments meet institutional cleanliness standards.
Support Health and Safety compliance, including risk assessments, safety checks, and emergency procedures.
Serve as Fire Marshal and First Aider (training provided if necessary).
Administrative & Operational Support
Maintain accurate records related to maintenance, equipment, compliance, and safety.
Support team communication, contribute to meetings, and report concerns regarding student progress or campus issues.
Keep up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices.
Key Performance Indicators
Student and staff satisfaction with the quality of technical and facilities support.
Timely resolution of technical and maintenance issues.
High standards of safety, cleanliness, and presentation across campus.
Accurate and timely record keeping.
Active participation in events, team meetings, and training.
Essential:
Relevant experience in a related technical or facilities-based field.
Willingness to develop technical proficiency with audio-visual, IT, or creative media equipment.
Practical aptitude for facilities maintenance and campus operations.
A flexible, team-oriented approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Legal right to work in the UK and live within commutable distance to Leeds Campus.
