Job summary

Oak Tree School in Truro, part of Outcomes First Group, is seeking a proactive Facilities Assistant to maintain buildings, grounds and equipment to high standards, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff.

You will perform planned and reactive maintenance, support health and safety checks, and coordinate with contractors. Driving licence is required and prior caretaking experience is valued.

  • Experience in general maintenance, facilities, caretaking or a related trade.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, repairs and refurbishment tasks across the site.
  • Supporting the upkeep of buildings, grounds, equipment and plant to ensure high standards are maintained.
  • Undertaking regular site inspections and reporting any maintenance, repair or health and safety concerns.
  • Assisting with health and safety compliance, including fire alarm checks, risk assessments and emergency procedures.
  • Liaising with contractors and suppliers to support maintenance projects and specialist repairs.
  • Maintaining tools, equipment and machinery safely and effectively.
  • Supporting the on-call rota and responding to urgent maintenance requirements when needed.
  • Contributing to a safe, clean and well-presented learning environment for students and staff.
  • Experience in general maintenance, facilities, caretaking or a related trade.
  • Ideally has experience in a specialist area such as plumbing, joinery, electrical work or decorating.
  • Has a strong understanding of health and safety practices and COSHH regulations.
  • Can work independently, manage workloads effectively and prioritise tasks.
  • Is practical, reliable and takes pride in delivering high-quality work.
  • Has basic IT skills for completing records and reports.

  • Oak Tree School in Truro has recently expanded and developed two new buildings and undergone a successful inspection from Ofsted allowing us to offer a wider age range of students from 5 - 18 years the opportunity to have the best education possible. Oak Tree School is a specialist SEMH provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 135 students and young people aged 5 to 18 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These students and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with students accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs. This opportunity is in Truro which is within commutable distance of Redruth, St Austell and surrounding areas. At Outcomes First Schools, we provide specialist education for learners who need a deeper level of understanding, expertise and support than mainstream education can typically offer. We support students with a wide range of complex, co-occurring and neurodivergent needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and communication needs, dyslexia and experiences of trauma or adversity.
