Job summary

HSB Technical Ltd seeks a Plater / Fabricator for submarine refit work in the UK. You will manufacture, assemble and install structural steel components from engineering drawings, working in a dockyard environment to exacting quality standards.

You must have experience with submarine or warship refits, heavy fabrication and naval steels, and be able to interpret drawings. The role carries contract terms with on-site work and accommodation included.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manufacture, assemble and install structural steel components in line with engineering drawings and project specifications.
• Mark out and prepare steel plate and sections, cutting, profiling and forming using oxy-fuel and plasma equipment.
• Undertake repairs and alterations to submarine hull structures, frames, bulkheads, decks and internal steelwork.
• Complete accurate fit-up and alignment work within restricted-access compartments.
• Use jigs, fixtures and templates to support dimensional accuracy and workmanship.
• Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols and technical instructions.
• Work alongside welders, fitters, pipefitters and inspection personnel to meet production schedules.
• Follow MOD, dockyard and site safety requirements including confined-space procedures.
• Check completed work before QA and NDT inspections, rectifying issues as required.
• Assist with resolving fabrication challenges and improving workflow.

• Use jigs, fixtures and templates to support dimensional accuracy and consistent workmanship.
• Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols and technical instructions.
• Work alongside welders, mechanical fitters, pipefitters and inspection personnel to meet production schedules.
• Follow MOD, dockyard and site safety requirements, including confined-space procedures and hot-work controls.
• Check completed work before quality assurance and non-destructive testing inspections, rectifying issues where required.
• Assist with resolving fabrication challenges and improving workflow throughout the refit programme.

Security Clearance Requirements:

• Applicants must be eligible to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.
• Existing SC clearance may be transferable through the relevant UKSV process, subject to acceptance.
• Successful candidates without current SC clearance can be sponsored through the clearance process.
• A start may be possible once Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks are complete and SC clearance is underway, subject to site approval.
• Must have the right to work in the live in the UK.
