Job summary

BJF Group is seeking a Fabric Engineer to join its Facilities Management division in Poole. The role focuses on reactive and planned maintenance of building fabric across MoD assets, delivering high-quality repairs and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

You will respond to calls, perform first fixes where possible, and help scope permanent repairs while maintaining detailed records in the CAFM system. A strong focus on teamwork and site safety is essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2 or higher in building services or equivalent.
• Carpentry qualification or equivalent trade credential.
• Experience performing trade-related maintenance, installations and fault finding.
• Experience with planned maintenance and reactive tasks against KPIs.
• Proficiency in basic fabric repairs: painting, decorating, bricklaying, plastering.
• Repair of timber and UPVC doors/windows.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, statutory-compliant fabric maintenance for MoD properties and assets, incl. doors and fabric repairs.
• Respond to reactive calls, perform first fixes where possible, scope permanent repairs if needed.
• Execute planned maintenance per program and keep auditable records in CAFM.
• Coordinate with site service managers to keep sites in good decorative order.
• Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and site protocols.
• Be proactive about safety and support colleagues and clients on site.

Within our Facilities Management division, the Southwest Core team plays a crucial role in the day-to-day delivery of reactive and preventative works across a diverse range of properties and systems within our client's sites - as a Fabric Engineer. Within the team, you will be expected to provide comprehensive repairs and maintenance to a range of commercial instillations.

Position of the Fabric Engineer:

• To deliver a high-quality and statutory compliant maintenance service to MoD property and assets. To include the operation, repair and maintenance of Building, Fabric repairs.
• Respond to reactive calls, carry out first fix where possible, be prepared to provide scoping quotes for permanent repairs where first fix is not possible, ensuring minimum downtime.
• Carry out all planned building / fabric maintenance tasks as per program and keep accurate auditable records of works planned and completed, the clients CAFM system.
• Work closely with site service managers to ensure that the site is maintained and kept in good decorative order internally and externally – provide advice guidance on routine fabric repairs to support a timely completion.
• You are to ensure you work within the confines of current Health and Safety legislation and adhere to site protocols and any work-related safety measures as updated during your induction onto site.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach to and adopt any relevant control measures to ensure the safety of colleagues, client and any other persons within the vicinity which could be impacted the work you are undertaking.
• Maintain good personal standards to represent the Client therefore maintaining high values standards of customer care
• Be prepared to be versatile and undertake other reasonable duties to support the clients operational requirements.

Main Tasks:

Carpentry, repairs and replacements for doors, architraves and door sets.

Wall & Floor tiling

Minor plastering and drywalling

Minor decorations to make good.

Requirements of the Fabric Engineer:

• NVQ Level 2 or above in a building services/trade discipline or equivalent
• Carpentry qualification
• Experience carrying out trade related maintenance, installation and fault finds
• Experience of planned preventative maintenance and reactive works / tasks completed within KPI’s
• Basic building fabric repair-Painting & decorating, Bricklaying and Plastering
• Timber and UVPC door and window repairs,
