Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland are recruiting a site based Handy Person to join our FM Segment in Castle Donington. You will work 40 hours per week, 8.00am–5.00pm, Monday to Friday, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across the site.

The role requires experience with building fabric issues, a recognised trade qualification, and willingness to be on an on-call rota. Full driving licence and basic plumbing/electrical skills are advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Handy Person in a busy service environment and dealing with building fabric.
  • Trade qualification or time-served tradesperson.
  • Training in or experience of General H&S Regulations, risk assessments and method statements.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out building fabric inspections and repairs including ceilings, painting, skirting and door servicing.
  • Carry out planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks across the site.
  • Liaise with subcontractors on method statements, risk assessments and safe execution of works.
  • Monitor and order stock; assist in providing site services and on-call duties.

BAM UK & Ireland are recruiting a site based Handy Person to join our FM Segment of the business and to be based in Castle Donington. Working 40 hours per week between the hours of 8.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Making Possible

In conjunction with common roles the fabric engineer will have full responsibility for the Building fabric status of the site and carry out planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks as they occur across the site.

Responsibilities
  • Knowledge and experience with building fault finding
  • Carry out ceiling repair, painting, skirting and facing replacement, door servicing etc.
  • Identify spare parts to carry out repairs and order through appropriate channels.
  • Ability to inspect and carry out reactive landscape maintenance tasks in accordance with the project agreement including litter picking.
  • Carry out building fabric inspections
  • Inspection and fault finding building fabric.
  • Carry out monthly legionella tap temps and low used outlet flushing.
  • Liaison and supervision of subcontractors in relation to method statement risk assessment and safe execution of works.
  • Monitor and order stock for related items.
  • Assist in the provision of the associated services within the site.
  • Undertake porterage duties.
  • Assist in the fulfilment of health and safety responsibilities within the site.
  • Provide general support duties.
  • Ensure the operation of heating plant, fire alarm systems and lighting systems.
  • Carry out and supply meter readings for utility consumption.
  • Other reasonable requests when required.

What do you bring to the role?
  • Experience as a Handy Person in a busy service environment, with previous experience dealing with building fabric issues.
  • Recognised trade qualification/Time served tradesmen.
  • Training in or experience of General H&S Regulations, carrying out the preparation of Risk Assessments and producing Method Statements for works within the site.
  • Must be experienced and self-motivated and able to identify concerns / defects without direction.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Reliable.
  • Basic plumbing/mechanical and electrical experience would be advantageous.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to use initiative in day to day duties.
  • Be willing to be part of an on call rota.
