Job summary

Sense Education Limited is seeking an Early Years Teaching Assistant to support a pupil 1:1 in a Carlisle area school. The role involves play-based activities, sensory play, and helping children access the EYFS curriculum with hands-on approaches.

You will work 5 days a week, 8:30am to 3:30pm, term-time only, with both full-time and part-time applications welcome. The position offers competitive pay of £14.60–£16.90 per hour and opportunities for ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• An Early Years or Childcare qualification or relevant experience working with children under 5 (NVQ, CACHE, Degree, or equivalent)
• Warm, observant, patient nature suitable for early childhood work
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit
• Sensitivity to individual children’s needs and the ability to adapt approaches accordingly

Sense Education is currently looking for an Early Years Teaching Assistant to start ASAP in the Carlisle area. The role is to support a pupil 1:1 with additional needs in a school setting.

Your Role – as an Early Years Teaching Assistant

As an Early Years Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support 1:1 and small group learning through play‑based, sensory, and exploratory activities
• Help children access the EYFS curriculum using creative, hands‑on approaches
• Encourage early milestones in communication, independence, and social engagement
• Use visuals, sensory play, and interactive routines to build understanding and confidence
• Assist with daily routines such as toileting, mealtimes, and outdoor play in a caring, respectful way
• Observe children’s progress and support planning next steps alongside other practitioners

If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. Thisadvertis for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
