Job summary

Oakfield Community Primary School and Nursery in Widnes is seeking an experienced and compassionate Class Teacher to lead day-to-day provision in our EYFS/KS1 resource base, with the flexibility to teach in mainstream.

You will plan and deliver high-quality, adaptive early years and KS1 teaching, translating EHCP outcomes into focused learning plans, and collaborating with the SENCO and colleagues to secure progress.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher status (QTS) with recent, successful EYFS/KS1 classroom experience, minimum of 2 years.
• Proven experience supporting pupils with SLCN or related SEND; experience with EHCPs desirable.
• Strong knowledge of EYFS statutory requirements and effective early years pedagogy.
• Effective communicator, collaborative team-player and skilled leader of support staff.
• Commitment to restorative behaviour approaches, high expectations and improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach differentiated EYFS and KS1 provision tailored to pupils with SEND, especially speech, language and communication needs.
• Act as key person/class teacher for allocated pupils: develop strong attachments, personalised targets and day-to-day pastoral care.
• Translate EHCPs, therapist recommendations and SEN support plans into measurable short-term goals and monitor impact.
• Deliver and evaluate targeted interventions (e.g. S&L programmes, pre-teaching) and keep accurate assessment records (EYFS Profile where relevant).
• Lead, line-manage and develop teaching assistants assigned to the base, ensuring protected planning/liaison time.
• Liaise regularly with parents/carers and external professionals; prepare contributions for EHCP annual reviews and multi-agency meetings.
• Promote inclusion through planned mainstream access, transition support and staff modelling of strategies.
• Maintain safeguarding, behaviour, medical and risk-assessment protocols; contribute to wider whole-school improvement.
