Job summary

The Council of Deans of Health is seeking an External Examiner to join the Nursing Associate programme (apprenticeships and direct entries). This role focuses on maintaining academic standards, ensuring fairness across assessments, and supporting high-quality learning.

The appointment is for two years starting Sept 2026 and typically requires 12–15 hours per year, including reviewing materials, online Assessment Board attendance, and producing an annual report with recommendations.

Qualifications

• Hold a professional registration with the NMC.
• Experience teaching or assessing Nursing Associate students or similar healthcare programmes.
• Currently employed in UK higher education.
• Have not held an External Examiner role with us in the past five years.
• Have no conflicts of interest with staff or students.

Responsibilities

• Review assessment briefs, marking, and moderation processes.
• Provide feedback on the quality, standards, and fairness of assessments.
• Attend at least one Assessment Board per year (online attendance is usually possible).
• Contribute an annual report outlining findings and recommendations.
• Offer constructive external insight to support programme development.
