Job summary

Pearson is recruiting an External Examiner (EE) for Business Level 4-5 (RQF). The role focuses on sampling assessed work, ensuring alignment with Pearson standards across HN programmes, and supporting centres in meeting national standards.

The EE will provide guidance, reports, and targeted actions, and collaborate with the Senior External Examiner. A Level 6 qualification and IQA leadership experience are required; CPD and tech-enabled centre support are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Significant teaching experience of HN within the last 10 years.
• Significant experience in delivering and assessing BTEC Higher National qualifications in the subject area.
• Hold a qualification at least at Level 6 and a full and relevant competence qualification for working in the sector.
• Participation annually in online training and standardisation and successful completion of the set standardisation activity.
• Individuals who have had a lead role for Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) and are passionate for raising and maintaining standards in HE.

Responsibilities

• Undertake sampling of assessed student work within defined parameters to ensure alignment with Pearson standards for HN qualifications.
• Provide sampling-related support and development to centres and staff.
• Produce reports for centres and Pearson detailing sampling outcomes and support provided.
• Apply sanctions in consultation with the team leader when assessment outcomes do not meet published national standards.
• Produce targeted actions for centres to aid remedial actions and track progress.
• Support centres to understand and implement identified actions during the period of assessment.
• Facilitate the Senior External Examiner in sourcing materials for training and standardisation.
• Report back to Pearson and centres after EE activity within SLAs.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to Technical and Professional Assessment work.
