Job summary

Rolls-Royce is seeking an External Communications Manager for the Engineering, Technology & Safety (ET&S) function to shape external narratives and strengthen reputation through engaging storytelling, across engineering, technology and safety subjects.

Based in Derby or Bristol with a hybrid pattern (three days on site), you will develop media strategies, manage content, advise senior leaders and collaborate across groups to deliver integrated external campaigns.

Qualifications

• Proven experience developing external narratives and proactive communications programmes.
• Outstanding writing and editorial skills; ability to explain complex technical subjects clearly.
• Strong news judgment with ability to identify stories relevant beyond the organisation.
• Experience advising senior executives and technical experts on external positioning.
• Passion for engineering, technology, innovation and/or safety communications.
• Strong project management skills; ability to build networks in a complex organisation.
• Collaborative approach to bring new thinking and challenge the status quo.
• Experience developing and executing media strategies and thought‑leadership opportunities.
• Experience building relationships with technology, engineering and corporate media.
• Experience supporting issues and reputation management involving sensitive topics.

Responsibilities

• Shape the external communications strategy for ET&S and develop nascent technology narratives.
• Develop media strategies, announcements, features and executive content.
• Build a proactive content pipeline on engineering breakthroughs, safety and partnerships.
• Advise senior leaders and subject-matter experts on external positioning.
• Translate complex engineering and technical subjects into clear, accessible stories for external audiences.
• Protect and strengthen reputation with insight and issues management with Group Communications.
• Use insight and evaluation to refine narrative and track impact across audiences.
